Join Good Company as they welcome acclaimed feminist composer, Joan Szymko, to Cleveland! Ms. Szymko’s catalogue of over 100 choral works includes bold and empowering pieces that have made her a favorite of audiences and singers in North America and abroad. On Saturday, November 9 at 2:30 p.m., Ms. Szymko will lead a choral workshop focusing on diction, communicating the impact of text and honoring rhythmic accuracy. The workshop is free, and everyone is welcome to attend. Then on Sunday, November 10 at 4 p.m., Good Company and Ms. Szymko will present She Who Makes Her Meaning Clear: A Celebration of Women Composers. Ms. Szymko will appear as Guest Conductor at this uplifting program that will feature selections by all women composers including Joan Szymko, Alice Parker, Billie Holiday, Ysaye Barnwell, Jena Root and others. The ensemble will also premiere new music by Good Company member Jennifer Scolnick and November Night by LPC’s Ruth Draper. Guest artists will include Windsong, Cleveland’s feminist chorus; Amethyst Strings and student singers from local music programs. Michael Carney is Music Director and Ruth Draper is the accompanist. A freewill offering will be received. Free and open receptions with the composer will follow both events. All activities will take place at Lakewood Presbyterian Church.
