Building the Kingdom

Around the corner, around the world, our mission efforts mirror the caring of Christ for all. Lakewood Presbyterian church supports a wide variety of mission programs near and far, helping them in their efforts to build Christ’s kingdom in this time and place.

LCSSLakewood Christian Service Center

This mission partner was founded in 1982 as an effort on the part of 12 Lakewood churches to establish a hunger center.  Our church is proud to have been a charter member.  This center has grown to include job assistance, housing advocacy, and social services in addition to hunger issues.

West Side Ecumenical Ministries, Community Corner

This non profit human services agency helps clients move towards self sufficiency through many different avenues.  Community Corner is one of 3 WSEM sites that together provide 750,000 meals per year.

Lakewood Youth Services, H2O

This program is a collaborative effort between Lakewood City Services and Lakewood Schools.  It provides meaningful community service opportunities for middle and high school aged youth.

New Life Community

Founded in 1989 as an interfaith effort, this mission partner is focused on providing transitional housing for homeless persons.  The long-term goal is to allow clients to transition to a self-sufficient life.

New Life Glenville, Summer Program

This inner city church is a vibrant ray of hope to the surrounding community year round.  But their summer program of games, crafts, field trips, Bible study and good fellowship/ supervision to the area children is extra important.

North Church, Community Meals

This mission oriented inner city church provides a weekly meal after Worship for all who have come.  It is a time for addressing hunger of the body and soul.

North Coast Health Ministry

This faith based free clinic is for eligible patients in western Cuyahoga and eastern Lorain counties.  The need grows every year.

South Africa Mission Partnership

This group is under the auspices of the Presbytery of the Western Reserve.  It is concerned with justice issues in Africa surrounding land ownership and farming availability.

Presbyterian Theological Education Fund

It is currently estimated that it costs $78,600 to educate a Master of Divinity student. These men and women are the future of church leadership and need our financial support.

InterAct

This multifaith organization is an opportunity for dialogue and understanding between the various faith communities of Cleveland. They are best known for their annual Homeless Stand Down.

Blue Star Moms

An association of women who care about our military, remembering them in distant service to our nation with packages of caring and concern.  Mailing costs are a particularly challenging expense, as most gift items are donated.

Nothing But Nets

This global grassroots campaign saves lives by preventing malaria with bedding nets, particularly in Africa.

Doctors Without Borders

Founded in 1971 by doctors and French journalists, this organization won the Nobel Peace prize in 1999.  It provides humanitarian relief in 60 countries, operating on a basis of impartial medical treatment of individuals.

Heifer International

During 2009, the youth of Lakewood Presbyterian Church embarked on and succeeded in their year-long effort to raise $5,000 to purchase a Heifer International Gift Ark for families in need around the world.
