The Rev. Dr. James C. Butler

James Butler was ordained in 1990 to the Presbyterian Ministry of Word and Sacrament. For over 11 years, he enjoyed serving as an Interim Ministry specialist with congregations in Pennsylvania and Ohio. In 2001, he was installed as the eighth pastor of Lakewood Presbyterian Church. A native of Richmond, Indiana, he is a graduate of Taylor University (1984) and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (1989). He received the Doctor of Ministry degree from Princeton Theological Seminary (2009) for his qualitative research project on suicide bereavement and pastoral care. In addition to his duties at LPC, Dr. Butler serves as a Trustee of the Presbytery of the Western Reserve, Secretary/Treasurer of the Lakewood Ministerial Association, and a Trustee of the LSC Corporation and Foundation (a senior citizens non profit housing organization on Cleveland’s west side). In his spare time, he enjoys refurbishing his century home, entertaining, studying the harp, trying to play tennis, and the novels of Susan Howatch.

Sharon came to ministry as a second career. Having spent 25 years in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Art, she received a call and returned to seminary. Sharon was ordained (PCUSA) in 2006. Sharon holds a Bachelor of Art and Education degree from Kent State University, a Master of Religion from Chicago Theological Seminary, and a Master of Divinity from Ashland Theological Seminary. She is the daughter of Rev. David Sherwin (Honorably Retired), the wife of Noah Budin, and the mother of Zachary, Rachel, and Mariah. Sharon’s interests include spirituality and the arts, murder mysteries, creating and playing board games, and adopting pets.

Peg believes that the gift of music is for everyone and for all ages and that church music is to the glory of God. As a result, the music program at Lakewood Presbyterian Church has something for all ages, and the focus is on sharing gifts and talents in the worship service. Peg holds a degree in organ and voice from the College of Wooster where she had the good fortune to study with Bach expert, Richard T. Gore. Peg has further studied organ with Paul Reynolds and Karel Paukert. She holds the Associate degree from the American Guild of Organists and is certified by the Presbyterian Association of Musicians. She has over 35 years’ experience as a recitalist, accompanist, continuo player, and teacher. Hymn playing and a singing congregation are her trademarks.
