Worship Services

Sunday Worship: Fall/Winter/Spring

Services at Lakewood Presbyterian Church are held at 10:30 am from the Sunday after Labor Day weekend through the Sunday before Memorial Day weekend.  We follow the liturgical calendar, in which we progress from Ordinary Time, into Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter and Pentecost.

Church WorshipSunday Worship: Summer

Summer services begin at 10 am from the Sunday of the Memorial Day weekend thru the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.  One Sunday in the Summer is dedicated to an outdoor worship experience at Lakewood Park, with a potluck meal and homemade pies following the service.

Seasonal Services

Lakewood Presbyterian Church also offers special worship experiences throughout the church year, appropriate to the liturgical season. These services are always occasions surrounded by special meaning and music, including:

Christmas Eve Family Service

An earlier Christmas Eve event for families that includes a Christmas pageant incorporating all of the children. It also involves lessons and carols and ends with the singing of ‘Silent Night’ by candlelight.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

A traditional later Christmas Eve worship experience, with lessons and carols, a message from the pastor and the singing of ‘Silent Night’ by candlelight.

Maundy Thursday Service

A meditative worship service that includes readings from Scripture relating Christ’s journey to the Cross. As passages are read, candles are snuffed and lights dimmed, eventually leading to a darkness that evokes the shadows of the tomb and the sorrow of the day to come.

Easter Sunday

A joyous worship service in sermon and song, proclaiming the Good News that is the high point of the church year, Christ’s resurrection and our shared salvation.

Peacemaking/World Communion Sunday

A time of worship during which we remember our continuing call to be peacemakers in this world. It is also the Sunday on which Christians of many denominations across the world commit themselves to celebrating the sacrament of communion, affirming that we are one body in Christ.
