There was a prevailing Passover custom in Jerusalem that allowed or required Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea, to commute one prisoner’s death sentence by popular acclaim. The “crowd” was offered a choice of who to have released from Roman custody — Barabbas, the reputed thief, murderer and insurrectionist, or Jesus. The drama will unfold in a reader theatre play by Michel de Ghelderode. Click here for details.
